Wave At The Band

Smile and wave!
Parade Season is officially here. Since Rain joined the Marching Band a year ago, I have been to more parades than I had ever been to in the rest of my life combined. I don't remember going to parades as a child. Do they even have parades in San Diego (my hometown)? Not that I ever heard of.

Utah does parades. We have parades for every occasion, including occasions that aren't really occasions. Our hometown parade is known as the "Steel Days Parade." American Fork used to have a steel mill. Sort of. Technically the steel mill wasn't really in American Fork, but in a nearby town of even smaller size. But I digress. There's the neighboring Lehi Parade, the Freedom Festival Parade, the Days of 47 Parade, and the Highland Parade. And those are just the ones that Rain's band marches in. While we've been to all of the aforementioned parades, we have not yet been to the Raspberry Days Parade, nor the Onion Days parade, nor the Strawberry Days parade. The list goes on...

Parades. Good times. Sunshine and summertime.
Heading to the Freedom Festival Parade

  1. We totally love you guys and we don't even know you. Thanks for the laughs! I especially loved the video, as our Eastern Idaho marching bands lack the ability to march or even stay in straight lines. Thank you for sharing!

  2. Also from San Diego and also have a daughter in the AF Marching Band, and I don't remember going to parades in SD either. It is fun to be an AF Marching Band parent. They are awesome and amazing! Thanks for the video. I can't get enough of them.

Rochelle, there are parades in San Diego. Patrick Henry marched in the Mother Goose Parade in El Cajon. I can't remember the others, maybe you had to have been in marching band to have known about them.

  4. You know what they say? What is the one thing harder than being a member of the marching band? Being a parent of a member of the marching band. I was so relieved when my 12 year old just said she only wants to do choir from now on. Phew. Dodged that bullet.

  6. Ah, the days of watching the band march! Our oldest daughter played just about any instrument she could get her hands on, the youngest daughter played trombone.

Enjoy the days, but beware the flashbacks that will happen in later years.

  7. I'm here from Diva's.

When I was a boy in Mississippi in the '50s and '60s, parades were pretty darn neat, especially the marching bands from the all-black colleges--of course, you don't have many of those in Utah, eh?

By the way, the mountains in the middle photo are sure lovely. Great looking kid, you've got there, too.
